Education, Art and poverty of the mind

As Krishnamurthy commented, "Truth is a pathless land." Ruminating on this has been a favourite pastime of mine.Truth be told, our own perceptions lead us to interpret life. Is education ,then, a search for truth or is it a futile walk on a never ending route?

I know this interpretation is taking a bit of liberty with what Krishnamurthy actually meant. This write up is not intended to be a discussion on this. What I want to talk about , as an educationist, is the aims of education and whether, we are concerned with out of the box thinking.

Let us be very clear that thoughts which lead us to rumination are no more valid. The aim of education which seemed to be of opening minds seem dated. Cognition has triumphed over the intellect. It may surprise many to hear this.Do we actually accept the difference?

Yet, there is one. Accepting this difference  is the redemption for modern education. If we are serious about bringing about a paradigm change , then we have to include all those elements that may lead to rumination. Again, we may ask a cognitive question, "What are these elements?'

I feel this calls for an open ended  debate. For me, an answer lies in art. By art I mean fine arts, photography, graphics, applied art and all other medium of visual display of one's ideas that contemporary science has discovered.

Ignorance of visual display in the days of the idiot box, Whatsapp and all other paraphernalia seems highly unlikely nowadays. Can one really ignore the huge hoardings that pierce the skyline? Do they convey anything ? Have we become immune to  the messages? Maybe we have but the issue here is rumination. Do these lead to rhetoric or even a slight nod of the head?

I believe they do.
